My recently published case study in the American Journal of Family Therapy, examines the application of Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) delivered using telehealth and in Spanish to support a Mexico-born woman in the U.S. managing chronic endometriosis. The client presented with severe anxiety, depression, grief, insomnia, and symptoms associated with endometriosis. The therapy focused on increasing the client’s differentiation of self, addressing emotional cutoffs, exploring family projection processes, and targeting improvements in the client’s endometriosis symptoms. This study underscores the potential of culturally sensitive frameworks of family systems in addressing the emotional and physical dimensions of chronic health conditions like endometriosis.
